About Gawain

You can see most of the basic information about me to the left, but if you like extra words surrounding those details, here you go! My name is Shane, I was born in Derbyshire, United Kingdom on 10 December 1991.

I was interested in games from a young age, with some of my earliest memories being the likes of The Legend of Zelda: A Link to the Past and the early Final Fantasy games. Of course, I was only allowed to watch my Mum and her friend play at that point. That was until, one day, they they finally got fed up of my pestering and handed me a controller. Little did I know it wasn't connected. They let me think I was playing for.. Well, for some time. They did eventually allow me to play. I was generally put in charge of the grinding and levelling up. The bits they got bored of. I was in my element and loving it though!

Skip ahead a few years, and along came Spyro. Again, My Mum and her friend were playing, again, they got fed up of me pestering them, and again, they handed me the controller. This time it was attached though! They had been struggling on one of the flying levels for a long time, and obvoiusly didn't expect a kid to be of any help. Naturally, I showed them how it should be done, completing the level on my first attempt. That rarely happens these days.

At some point my Mum lost interest in games, which was perfect for me. I gained a variety of games on the PlayStation, managed to get a PS2 for Christmas one year, and eventually had the old family PC passed down to me. I'd buy old games from car boot sales and play them whenever I could. That was the spark that brings me to where I am today. I've never had an XBox, and my last PlayStation was the PS2. I do still have a Wii and Game Boy Color though! But I've been a PC gamer for many years now!

As for major parts of my life that are a little less focussed on gaming, I spent around 8 years in the British Army, but left to study Software Engineering at university. I'm also working part time in an IT department. While juggling uni and work has been tough, along with the 2 hour daily commute, it's bee a decent experience so far!

I've also done a variety of fun/not-so-fun/challenging activities, such as the Devizes to Westminster (the longest non-stop canoe race in the world), Accelerated Free Fall skydiving in Florida, London to Ypres bike ride (bike ride makes it sound nicer than it was), and skiing in France.
